Annual Giving & Donor Relations Manager

Reports To: Vice-President of Fund Development
FLMA Status: Full Time Exempt
I. Position Overview

The Annual Giving & Donor Relations Manager is responsible for developing, growing and managing MCEC’s comprehensive annual giving program.

Reporting to the Vice President of Fund Development, the Annual Giving & Donor Relations Manager is primarily responsible for the strategic execution and management of a comprehensive annual giving program, including the coordination and oversight of supporting initiatives in the areas of donor relations.  S/he develops the annual plan of coordinated communication and solicitation strategies involving email, direct mail, phone/mail, personal visitation and volunteer engagement, all focused on shaping a sustainable tradition of annual support. 

II. Duties and Responsibilities
Annual Giving Responsibilities

  • Meet annual fund goals.
  • In conjunction with the VP of Fund Development, develop an annual fund plan including goals, timeline and specific action plans and effective utilization of various channels including direct mail, tele-fundraising, online giving and other creative fundraising strategies.
  • Create, implement and analyze strategic fundraising appeals and communications based on donor segmentation and research.  Analyze effectiveness and messages; adapt future appeals accordingly.
  • Develop and manage annual expense budget for annual giving appeals and monitor monthly progress to goals.
  • Manage donor benefit implementation.
  • Create and maintain an active portfolio of identified prospects (individuals, organizations, and companies).
  • Work effectively with multiple stakeholders to gain strong participation in annual giving with core donor base and build strategies for moving donors to higher giving levels.

Donor Relations Responsibilities
1. Develop, implement and execute gift acknowledgement matrix to ensure timely and consistent acknowledgement of gifts to MCEC.
2. Construct and manage all acknowledgement letters to donors and friends of MCEC.
3. Contribute and maintain frequent communication with donors (individual and corporate), for the purpose of expressing gratitude and communicating progress and successes of MCEC.
4. Develop creative and cost effective ways to recognize donors
5. Develop and implement “thank you call” program including management of MCEC staff and volunteers to execute the program.
6. Assist in the development and execution of impact reports for MCEC major donors
7. Provide donor history and information to MCEC’s VP of Fund Development, Chief Operating Officer, and President/CEO as requested.
8. Work collaboratively to implement new funding ideas such as events, and/or working with the membership and marketing teams to increase memberships as time allows.
9. Serve as part of the planning and coordination team for special event activities such as dinner parties or custom events held in different cities by individuals or organizations hosting events on behalf of MCEC.
10. Comply with reporting requirements required by donors.
11. Cultivate relationships with individual and small business donors, corporations and agencies in-line with the goals and objectives of the MCEC.
12. Perform other related responsibilities as required.

III. Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of demonstrated experience in fundraising/development or equivalent sales position.
  • Demonstrated success in annual fundraising including direct mail, online giving and donor relations.
  • Experience with constituent relationship management system.
  • Demonstrated annual giving experience with proven track record of raising funds from individual donors and successfully meeting revenue targets.
  • Strong analytical skills and excellent writing skills.
  • Excellent organization, relationship-building, verbal and communication skills
  • Ability to deal effectively with donors, staff, board and volunteers.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, balance multiple projects, work under pressure to meet deadlines and maintain a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to think strategically and to complete projects independently within a team-based environment.

IV. Educational Requirements

  • • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university. Master’s degree a plus.

Language Skills

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common educational articles and technical journals, financial reports, and diverse documents.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from staff and trainers.
  • Ability to write articles or papers for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to staff, MCEC Board, CEO or COO was required.

Mathematical Skills

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Skills

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Other Qualifications

  • Must be able to travel occasionally.
