MCEC Condolences

04.08.2013, by Susan Conolly

The Military Child Education Coalition wishes to express our deepest sympathies to one of our own, Dee Steel, an MCEC teammate and member of the MCEC family for several years, serving as a professional development trainer.

Dee and her husband, Major General Robert P. Steel (Ret, USAF), received the sorrowful news that their beloved son, Captain James Steel, U.S. Air Force, perished in an F-16 plane crash in Afghanistan. Our hearts go out to Dee and her family.

During this month of the Military Child, it is worthwhile to note that Captain James Steel grew up in a military family, and experienced the many challenges and opportunities that go with a military lifestyle.  Like many other military-connected youth, James chose to serve his country.

The Steels are the epitome of a family with a legacy of service to our nation.  General Steel served in the military for over 32 years, and Dee is an Air Force Academy graduate as well.  The Steels have five other children, with three of the children also following a path of service in the Air Force.

Words cannot adequately convey our feelings of concern and sympathy for Dee and her family during this time of tragedy and loss.  Our hearts and prayers are with the Steel family.
