April is Month of the Military Child

Each year at this time our nation recognizes the contribution that the military child makes as their parent or parents serve either on Active Duty or in the Reserve components of the U.S. Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, or Coast Guard. After twelve years of war, though our country is eager to turn its attention elsewhere, the acknowledgement of this very special group of children is more important than ever.

Consider Military Kids…They Also Serve!

The Military Child Education Coalition ® (MCEC®) asks that our nation’s political leaders, regardless of party affiliation, consider the kids. The current sequestration cuts will impact the education of the over 1.2 million military-connected children who are in grades K-12. We ask our lawmakers to consider working together in a bipartisan way toward achieving a well thought-out Federal budget plan.

The Looming Sequestration…

This week the Military Child Education Coalition had the privilege to participate in a national teleconference of nonprofit organizations with Education Secretary Arne Duncan. The topic of the call was the potential impact of the upcoming Federal budget cuts under sequestration. In his opening remarks, he expressed the sequester plan was painful- no one ever intended that it would be put into effect.
