What’s RIGHT with These United States

Independence Day. Who else loves this holiday?  It’s right in the middle of summer. We ask each other, “What are you doing for the 4th?” Images of barbeques, watermelon, and fireworks immediately come to mind.  What’s not to love?

But that’s not why I love this holiday. I love it for the same reason I tear up when I hear the national anthem or say the Pledge of Allegiance.

I love the Fourth of July because it symbolizes all that is great with our country.  Dating back to the American Revolution, we have fought for our right to be free.  And from 1776 until present day, in true American fashion, we celebrate our independence.

I am grateful every day that while I am caught up in my own little world and daily dramas, there are brave men and women out there protecting me, my family, and my rights as an American. Our military is a national treasure. And our military families – well, they are just down-right amazing!

It is tempting to believe we are a nation divided. Listen to the media and we are not doing well, but let someone mess with us and see how quickly we band together. The beauty of our nation is that we are free to express our diverse ideas and dreams.

So this Independence Day, take a minute. Think about all the freedoms and rights that you have solely because you are an American citizen. Thank a service member or veteran and thank their families. Think about the Pledge of Allegiance and how spectacular it is that the Pledge is still true today, all these many years later.

“I Pledge Allegiance To the Flag
of the United States of America,
and to the Republic for Which It Stands,
One Nation Under God, Indivisible, with Liberty and Justice for All.”

How will you be spending the 4th?  As for me - I’ll be with my family, planning a barbeque, watching fireworks, and counting my blessings that I’m an American.

Do you have some novel Fourth of July traditions, ideas, or recipes you’d like to share?  I’d love to hear them! Please reply to this blog at: https://www.schoolquest.org/blog/entry/whats-right-with-these-united-states
Thank You!

Happy 4th, my friends.  ~Amy
