For all institutes, 12 full seat hours are required for institute credit - attendance both full days is required - no partial attendance accepted. For CEU credit participants are required to attend 95% of the training institute and fill out an end of course evaluation.

Who should attend the Supporting Children of the National Guard and Reserve Institute?
The Supporting Children of the National Guard and Reserve Institute is primarily held for school educators, especially counselors of all grade levels, and members of the National Guard and Reserves and their families.

Goal of Guard and Reserve Institute

The primary goal of the Institute is to reach out in a support network to the children of the Army National Guard, Reserve components, and geographically isolated families through:

  • State Education systems
  • Informed and resourced professional educators
  • School-based model for training and support
  • State and local partnerships between the schools, military communities, and other organizations

Concept and Expectation

The Institute uses a school-based model with schools as the central and major system of delivery for:

  • Reaching all children nation-wide
  • Tapping into existing systems
  • Building on schools as the hub for communities and neighborhoods
  • Using efficiently established professional support structures
  • Establishing sustainable state and local models that are accepted and adaptable
  • "Fitting" into all locations - state and local

Continuing Education/Graduate Credit

Continuing Education: The MCEC has been approved as an Authorized Provider by the International Association for Continuing Education Training (IACET), 8405 Greensboro Drive, Suite 800, McLean, VA 22102. Several states have also given their approval. Furthermore, the MCEC is a National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC) Approved Continuing Education Provider (ACEP) and may offer NBCC approved clock hours for events that meet NBCC requirements. The MCEC solely is responsible for all aspects of the program. To receive MCEC CEUs, participants will be required to complete the CEU Application during the Institute. CEU credits of 1.2 will be awarded for the successful completion of each institute for the cost of $25.00 payable by check only to the Military Child Education Coalition (no cash or credit cards accepted). Twelve (12) full seat hours required for institute credit, attendance is required for both full days, and no partial attendance will be accepted. For CEU credit, participants are required to attend 95% of the training institute and fill out an end of course evaluation.

Graduate Credit: Upon successful completion of the institute, you have an option to receive one graduate credit hour underwritten by a branch of Texas A&M. The University fee is $175.
