The Journey from “Welcome Home” to Now:  Reunion, Reconnecting, Routine™

Available on-line or face-to-face.

This course is designed to teach professionals who support military-connected children and youth the challenges and joys that children face during a time of reintegration following a family member’s return after an extended absence. Participants will learn strategies to help students adjust during the reunion, and during the journey of reconnecting and reestablishing family routine.

The Military Child Education Coalition® (MCEC®) Living in the New Normal™: Helping Children Thrive through Good and Challenging Times Institute a two day interactive professional development for guidance counselors, professional educators, social workers, school nurses, installation leaders, transition specialists, community professionals and military parents explores how concerned adults can support military-connected children and youth through good and challenging times. Participants will learn how to differentiate affective aspects of children dealing with change, recognize how a family member’s military experience formulates methods that build resilience and maximize the natural strengths of children, and identify current resources available specifically to support children.

The MCEC® Living in the New Normal™: Helping Children Thrive through Good and Challenging Times Practicum is a one day (6 clock hours; .6 CEUs) course for parents, childcare practitioners, social workers, educators, and Family Readiness Group or other family support group leaders. Participants will learn the elements of resilience and its application to military-connected children, identify and apply resilience-building skills to prepare children for good and challenging times, and identify the tools and resources to foster resilience.
