Web Content Specialist

Reports To:     Director of Marketing and Communications
FLSA Status:   Part-Time


I. Position Overview

The Military Child Education Coalition® (MCEC®) is a nonprofit 501 (c)(3) organization committed to improving the lives and educational achievement of military-connected children. We’re looking for a Web Content Specialist to join our marketing team. The ideal candidate is a highly collaborative and patient individual, able to interpret complex technical information and provide appropriate solutions.

II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Web Content Specialist will be selected by the MCEC® Director of Marketing and Communications, and Director of Human Resources. The Web Content Specialist will work part-time from the MCEC headquarters located in Harker Heights, Texas. 

Key Responsibilities

Graphic Design

  • Develop web-based solutions that support MCEC’s brand strategy, achieve desired campaign objectives, and resonate with various market segments.
  • Apply principles of web design to webpage layouts, graphic design, brand development, and the creative process to improve UI/UX.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, proactively reprioritizing when necessary as determined by competitive issues.
  • Work with MCEC’s Senior Graphic Designer to achieve strong, consistent brand feel throughout MCEC’s website.
  • Compile and present performance metrics, analysis and solutions to the Marketing Director.
  • Work with a variety of MCEC stakeholders to manage projects, deadlines, and expectations while maintaining brand and visual integrity.
  • Establish an effective working relationship with MCEC’s Web Developer partner to configure and maintain servers, update software, and troubleshoot issues.
  • Regularly review and audit website and online content for relevance, compliance, regulations and policy.

III. Position Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field (BFA in Graphic Design is preferred)
  • 3+ years’ experience in design or related field

Knowledge & Skills

  • Ability to debug compatibility issues across browsers and devices
  • Ability to effectively execute and manage multiple projects and deadlines
  • Strong communication skills and writing
  • Hands-on experience with Squarespace, WordPress or related CMS
  • Knowledge of eCommerce platforms, e.g., Shopify, BigCommerce
  • Familiarity with UI/UX
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills

  • Able to handle criticism and take direction
  • Strong knowledge in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, WordPress or related CMS

IV. Selection Process

Our selection process will be conducted in phases.
Phase One: In addition to the cover letter and resume, applicants are requested to submit a two-page response to the questions below:

  1. Briefly detail why your experiences make you a highly qualified candidate for this position.
  2. Briefly discuss your strengths and weaknesses.
  3. Describe a complex project with competing priorities. How did you approach it? How did you manage competing priorities/deadlines? What tools and processes were important to your workflow? What did you learn?
  4. Take a look at MCEC's website:   What are your general impressions of the site, and what would you do to improve UI/UX?

Phase Two: Qualified candidates may be invited to submit further documentation prior to the telephone interview process. These individuals will also be expected to submit the names, addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses for three professional references.

Phase Three: Based on the telephone interview results, a select number of candidates will be invited to a face-to-face interview with the MCEC selection team.

In addition to providing resumes, references and proof of academic credentials, applicants must also submit to extensive background checks, and possible fingerprinting.
