HARKER HEIGHTS, Texas — The Military Child Education Coalition® announced today the finalists for the organization’s annual Student 2 Student® Team of the Year competition.
The nine finalists include two previous winners who are looking to repeat in their respective categories.
“Over the past year, MCEC S2S programs have exceeded expectations during an unprecedented time in ways that reflected their commitment to each other, military-connected peers, and their schools,” said MCEC President and CEO Dr. Becky Porter. “These finalists represent the best of the best in their respective categories and embody a blueprint for other programs to follow.”
The official announcement of winners takes place July 19-21, during the MCEC virtual National Training Seminar. Winners are chosen from three school levels, and there is an overall school chosen as the Elite Team of the Year. The finalists for this year are:
MCEC S2S programs bring military and civilian students together to welcome incoming classmates, create positive environments, support academic excellence, and ease transitions for military-connected students around the world.
Although schools and districts oversee the programs following official training from MCEC and can tailor the design and execution of S2S to the needs of their local student bodies, every program must embody the same core values. The tenants of exemplifying leadership, promoting the importance of academics, service to school and the community, finding the way, and building relationships to ensure 100% acceptance, have proven to be instrumental in fostering positive, safe, and healthy environments for students to succeed.
There are currently 534 S2S programs across the world, including 34 states in the U.S. and 12 countries, that impact more than 115K students annually.
Rocky Mountain Classical Academy (Elite) and Whiteman Elementary School (Elementary) are the two current champions who are vying to repeat. MCEC recognized both schools, along with Wylie West Middle School and Swansboro High School for their efforts during the 2019-2020 school year as part of the organization’s virtual Education Summit last November.
