HARKER HEIGHTS, Texas — The Military Child Education Coalition® today offered its assistance to the incoming Biden administration on developing polices that support the education of military-connected children.
“The new administration should note that meeting the education needs of military-connected children directly impacts military readiness,” MCEC® wrote in a two-page memorandum to the Biden administration’s transition team. “Department of Defense leadership is taking a keen interest because they realize that if schools near military installations are failing to successfully transition and provide inclusive, quality education opportunities for our nation’s military children, service members will vote with their feet and depart the military.”
“Military readiness is inextricably bound to military family readiness, and there is no more important consideration for military families than the education of their children,” the memo added. The memo is available at MCEC_Memo_to_Biden_administratio.pdf (MilitaryChild.org).
MCEC offered to provide advice and counsel on a range of education-related areas important to military families. These include on relocation challenges faced by military families; challenges on transitioning to new schools; challenges ensuring continuity of services for students with special needs; improving the use of state-level military student identifier data; and, on the need for Purple Star Schools designation programs across the U.S.
“These issues are vitally important to military families and we hope to provide the new administration with insights for developing highly effective policies that bolster the education of military-connected children,” said Becky Porter, president and CEO of MCEC. “We want to ensure that military kids are college-, workforce- and life-ready, and we are excited to work with the Biden administration to achieve this.”
