HARKER HEIGHTS, Texas — The Military Child Education Coalition® announced today that Thomas Friedman, a three-time Pulitzer Prize winner and foreign affairs columnist for The New York Times, will be a featured speaker at the nonprofit’s National Training Seminar July 19-21.

“We are thrilled to have Mr. Friedman join us as a featured speaker for this year’s NTS,” said MCEC President and CEO Dr. Becky Porter. “his breadth of experience, bookended by his unwavering professionalism and inspiring approaches to overcoming challenges, will be integral to our collaborative efforts in exploring ways to shape the future for military kids around the world.”

Friedman’s reporting has spanned the globe, and he has been a leading voice for the New York Times since 1981. Friedman is also a New York Times bestselling author of seven books including his latest, Thank You for Being Late: An Optimist’s Guide to Thriving in the Age of Accelerations.

US News & World Report has endorsed Friedman as one of “America’s Best Leaders.” Foreign Policy Magazine stated Friedman "doesn't just report on events; he helps shape them," and Vanity Fair called Freidman America’s “best newspaper columnist.” He has been ranked No. 2 on the Wall Street Journal’s Influential Business Thinkers list, placed on the 2011 Thinkers50, and the 2013 Foreign Policy’s Top Global Thinkers List.

“Every year, MCEC works to provide our attendees with industry-leading speakers who can inspire us to elevate our individual and collective efforts for military-connected children,” added Porter. “Mr. Friedman brings that wow factor to this year’s NTS, and we are eager to hear his remarks and look forward to the discussions and collaborative efforts that result from his message.”
