The Military Child Education Coalition® (MCEC®) Living in the New Normal™: Helping Children Thrive through Good and Challenging Times Institute a two day interactive professional development for guidance counselors, professional educators, social workers, school nurses, installation leaders, transition specialists, community professionals and military parents explores how concerned adults can support military-connected children and youth through good and challenging times. Participants will learn how to differentiate affective aspects of children dealing with change, recognize how a family member’s military experience formulates methods that build resilience and maximize the natural strengths of children, and identify current resources available specifically to support children. Topics include Grief, Fostering Resilience through Positive Psychology, Responses to Challenges through the Developmental Lens, Coping, and Post Traumatic Stress and the Impact on Children.
Face-to-Face instruction with up to 50 people per session.
This course includes 6 clock hours (.6 CEUs) of instruction and group work time, exclusive of breaks and lunch. The course is offered over two consecutive days.
Professionals, para professionals and other adults who work with military-connected children. Parents will also find the information beneficial in helping their own children. This course includes material relevant for children ages birth to 18.
CEU - Course participants are eligible to receive .6 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for this twelve clock hour course. MCEC is a National Board for Certified Counselors Approved Continuing Education provider (ACEP™) and may offer NBCC-approved clock hours for events that meet NBCC requirements. The ACEP solely is responsible for all aspects of the program. These designations allow us to offer you these opportunities.
The Military Child Education Coalition is an approved continuing education provider for the Texas Education Association Provider # 501-090, Texas and other state entities.
To receive CEUs a participant must maintain 95% attendance, engage in the class activities and discussions, complete an end of course evaluation, and complete an end-of-course assessment with a minimum score of 80%. The CEU fee is $25.00.
