FAQ
What is the MCEC?
MCEC is the acronym for Military Child Education Coalition. The Coalition is incorporated as an educational, non-profit, tax-exempt, 501 (c)(3) organization that is dedicated to forming partnerships and providing for networking of military installations and their supporting school districts to address transition and other educational issues related to the military child. Membership is open to all military installations, their supporting schools, concerned organizations, and caring individuals.
What will I get out of joining?
First, you will have the personal satisfaction in knowing your involvement will support the combined efforts of individual, organization, military installation, and school district members in improving the conditions that affect students in military families as they transition from school to school, state to state, and country to country, following their military parent (or parents) who defend our nation.
Second, you will have access to a "solution bank" of proven ideas developed by Coalition members who share their best practices, as well as annual conferences designed to promote a continuing dialogue and interaction between military installations and school districts concerning transition and other educational issues.
Third, an expanding web site provides one-stop access to transition information from a number of sources. Members are able to utilize specific programs through discreet access. Currently, the Interactive Counseling Centers provide secure electronic records-transfer using existing hardware/software/Internet connections currently available to schools and military installations. MCEC's SchoolQuest allows parents to put in information about each school age child and to access information on school districts and campuses located in the area of installations.
Fourth, you will have use of MCEC as an information resource and central point-of-contact to facilitate sharing of ideas, providing materials, researching questions, and relaying information via the Internet (primarily).
What can I do?
You can get involved!
- Join the Coalition as an individual member.
- Volunteer to help your military installation or school district by serving on a committee that interests you.
How can I help?
Let others know about the Military Child Education Coalition. MCEC is still unknown to the majority of military families, in all branches of the Armed Forces. Help us get the word out. Suggest "transition" as a topic for discussion at the next meeting of your PTA or local military spouses' group.
Visit the Coalition's web site often, and tell others about it, especially military friends and neighbors with school-aged children who are being reassigned.
Encourage your school district and/or military installation to become a member of the Coalition.
Please send your proven ideas directly to us (MCEC | 108 FM 2410, Suite D | PO Box 2519 | Harker Heights, TX | 76548).
