James Mitchell, Ed.D.

Dr. James Mitchell, former Superintendent of the Groton Public Schools, has devoted over 30 years to public education in Connecticut.

He has held various positions including teacher, guidance counselor, Director of Guidance and Counseling, Director of People and Personnel, Assistant Superintendent, and Deputy Superintendent. Jim earned his Bachelor’s degree in History and English from Lamar University in Texas, his Masters degree in Guidance Counseling from the University of Rhode Island, and his Doctorate degree in Education Administration from the University of Connecticut. He currently serves as a special consultant for turn-around schools for the Connecticut Department of Education. He and his wife, Marguerite, a retired high school guidance counselor, have two daughters and two grandsons. Jim was a vital contributor to the 2000 launch of the MCEC Transition Counselor Institute.
